Actress’ Life Prepared Her for Drake Produced Series ‘Euphoria’

Growing up in the projects of Miami, Nika King, star of HBO series “Euphoria,” had a front seat to the devastation caused by drugs.

“Most adults in my life were addicted to drugs,” King said. “I was familiar with all the lies, stealing and cheating that comes with that.”

She credits that life experience for preparing her for her role as a tough and determined mother trying to guide her troubled daughters through the perils of love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media. Actresses Zendaya and Storm Reid play her daughters and rapper Drake is an executive producer.

Comedy Central show gives the funny on the ‘South Side’ of Chicago

Comedy Central’s new show “South Side” follows two friends in Chicago who just graduated from community college and are ready to take over the world. But until they do, they’re stuck working at Rent-T-Own. Shot on location in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, the show offers an authentic look into what life on the South Side is all about.

The show premieres Wednesday, July 24 at 10:30/9:30 p.m. central.

Idris Elba returns in ‘Luther’

Idris Elba is back for a second season as a police detective in the BBC America series, “Luther.”
 
Elba, 39, plays Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, a brilliant police detective entering middle age, with erratic behavior, a broken marriage, and a nervous breakdown in his past, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
 
In the psychological police thriller, Luther is an anguished soul who is too keenly aware of the evil that people can do because he recognizes the criminal impulse in himself.
 
The second season of Luther debuted on BBC America last Wednesday.
 
Episode two airs Wednesday night at 9 p.m.

This summer, get ready for a new cast of basketball wives. This time from Los Angeles as the successful VH1 series launches another installment.
 
“Basketball Wives LA” premieres Aug. 29 and includes a member of the original Miami cast, Gloria Govan, who is the fiancée of Los Angeles Laker Matt Barnes. Govan will be joined by her sister, Laura Govan as well as Kimsha Artest, wife of Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest; Jackie Christie, wife of Doug Christie, former player for the Los Angeles Clippers; and Imani Showalter, ex-fiancée of Charlotte Bobcats’ Stephen Jackson.
 
Shaunie O’Neal, former wife of Shaquille O’Neal, is an executive producer of the popular show.

Divorce finalized for Nas and Kelis / Damian Marley and Nas perform

It’s official.  After five years of marriage, Nas and Kelis are now divorced.  According to TMZ, the marriage ended last Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.  Currently, Nas was ordered to pay $10,000 monthly in child and spousal support.  The two are expected back in court for child and spousal support claims.
 
Check out Nas and Damian Marley performing their new single “As We Enter” Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live after the jump. The two are touring to promote their joint album, “Distant Relatives.”
