Obama’s presidential stay in Vegas

When President Barack Obama came to Las Vegas Tuesday to attend a fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, he was happy about his digs at his favorite hotel in town, Caesars Palace.  His 22,000-sq. ft. suite featured a private pool, patio and views of the famed Vegas Strip, reports People.  Before becoming president, Obama frequently stayed at the hotel during campaign visits.

“I thought I had a pretty nice room [then],” he said. “But now I’m president, they upgraded me. It’s a really nice room now.”

At Saturday night’s White House Correspondents Association dinner, President Barack Obama teased Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele about his use of slang.

‘Kumar’ goes to the White House

Kal Penn, who starred as Kumar in the movie, “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle,” is now part of the Obama administration.  Penn most recently had a recurring role on the FOX series, “House.”  There is no start date yet for his new job as associate director in the Office of Public Liaison.  Penn will connect President Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific-Islander communities plus the arts & entertainment groups.

Michelle Obama celebrates Women’s History Month

First Lady Michelle Obama will celebrate Women’s History Month this Thursday.  Twenty-one female industry leaders will join Obama to speak to local students in Washington D.C. about achieving their career goals, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.  Some of the women speakers include: Alicia Keys, Alfre Woodard, Debbie Allen and Mae Jemison.

Obama appearing on Leno Thursday

President Barack Obama will appear on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Thursday, said the White House.  Obama will visit the show during his trip to Los Angeles and will return to Washington Thursday night.

Michelle Obama and Oprah are cover girls

In the April issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Winfrey will share the cover with First Lady Michelle Obama.  Obama speaks to Winfrey about life in the White House, including decorating her new home.

 “I want art that reflects contemporary and traditional, I want to bring in new American artisans,” Obama said.

Obam to honor Stevie Wonder

On Feb. 26, PBS will broadcast its series, “Performance at the White House,” a concert where President Barack Obama will present Stevie Wonder with the Library of Congress award, reports the Associated Press.  Wonder’s songs such as “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and “Higher Ground” were used throughout Obama’s presidential campaign.

Michelle Obama Styled by Chicago Boutique Owner

Ever wonder who was behind First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe for the inauguration?  Ikram Goldman, owner of a Gold Coast boutique in Chicago, managed the clothing provided by designers.  Obama’s measurements were provided by Goldman and all finished designs were sent to either Chicago or Washington.

“Mrs. Obama has shopped at Ikram’s store for years and appreciates her shared interest in working with a broad spectrum of designers, including many young and up-and-coming designers,” said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, Obama’s press secretary, to the New York Times.

Obama also spoke with Goldman about what she would wear on the cover of the March edition of Vogue magazine.
