In hopes of saving a needy battered woman’s shelter she has volunteered with for years, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is sharing her own experiences with domestic violence. She witnessed her mother Judith being beaten by her father, Jerome Jesse Berry, reports The Times. Her father left her Cleveland, Ohio home when she was four years old.
“I saw my mother battered, and could not do anything to stop it,” she said. “My father was tyrannical, lashing out at her for no reason. I felt the effects that had on our family — I’ve experienced what these women have gone through.
“I never had to run to a shelter, but I did choose the wrong partners,”Berry added. Not always good men. Luckily, in recent years, I have been smart enough to hit the door when violence even becomes a possibility. That is something I will not tolerate.”
It’s sad how the cycle repeats itself because Halle was in some abusive relationships herself. If I recall correctly she use to date Wesley Snipes and he was physically abusive to her even causing her some slit hearing loss from hitting her in the head.:-( glad she is speaking out.
I believed Halle Berry was in a great caring relationship with hopes of a long term marriage. Looks as if there are not things like contented marriages similar to mine any more – twenty years wed and still happy.
