Oprah gives money and Ipads to employees
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of O magazine, Oprah Winfrey gave each employee Tuesday an Apple iPad, a leather iPad case with their initials, and a check for $10,000.
“These were personal gifts to the staff from Oprah to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the magazine,” said a spokeswoman for Hearst, the company that publishes the magazine.

A Father’s Day Gift for Barack Obama
First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia went to the L.A. Lakers game Thursday night. The girls wanted to get their dad a jersey as a gift for Father’s Day. So AEG president Tim Leiweke — whose suite they were sitting in– had the gift shop make a customized Obama jersey. Lakers Coach Phil Jackson (and former coach of Obama’s hometown team, the Chicago Bulls) signed the jersey after the game.
Prince to receive BET lifetime achievement award
Prince will receive the royal treatment this month at the 10th annual BET awards. He will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the event in Los Angeles on June 27.
“Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music,” said Stephen G. Hill, BET president of programming, music and specials.
The 52-year-old performer has garnered 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles. Previous BET lifetime honorees include: James Brown, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Al Green. Queen Latifah will host this year’s event. Kanye West will also perform.

R.Kelly opened the FIFA World Cup recently in South Africa with a spirited performance of his song, “Sign of Victory,” along with the Soweto Spiritual Singers. “Sign of Victory” is the official anthem of the 2010 World Cup.
Jay-Z, Will and Jada win at the Tony Awards
On Sunday night, Jay-Z, Will and Jada Smith won three Tony Awards as executive producers of the Broadway musical, “Fela!” The play about ’70s Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was nominated for 11 Tony Awards. The three categories in which “Fela!” won were Best Sound Design of a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Costume Design of a Musical.
Denzel Washington won his first Tony award for his performance in August Wilson’s “Fences.” Viola Davis, also won a Tony for her role as his wife in the play.

Kanye West celebrates birthday with Lupe, Common and Chicago high school fans
Kanye West celebrated his 33rd birthday Monday by performing for three Chicago Public High Schools. West along with fellow Chicago rappers Common and Lupe Fiasco visited students at Farragut Career Academy, John Marshall Metropolitan and Percy L. Julian high schools. As part of the Kanye West Foundation’s 3rd annual “Stay in School” event, West honored the students for improving their grades, behavior, and attendance, reported the Chicago Tribune.
Fiasco opened the show with “Superstar,” followed by Common performing “Universal Mind Control.” West then performed four songs including “Run This Town,” “Good Life,” “Touch the Sky,” and his new single “Power.”
West didn’t say much during the show but Common addressed the crowd.
“We want to congratulate you on the incredible job you’ve done in school,” said Common, later adding “Whatever you do, be the best at it.”
