After being a little tipsy from champagne during a Jan. 6 award acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards for her role in the movie, “Precious,” Mariah Carey announced Friday through Twitter that she is launching her own brand of bubbly.
“Didn’t realize they put the champagne on the tables so we WOULDN’T drink it! Lol. No, seriously ANGEL CHAMPAGNE (ROSE) by MC coming soon!” the singer tweeted.
Released in 1994, “All I Want for Christmas is You,” is now the first seasonal ringtone to sell more than two million units. The single, written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff, was a hit song on Carey’s “Merry Christmas” album. It’s been the no. 1 holiday ringtone since 2006.
“Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has become one of the essential musical hallmarks of the holiday season and continues to set records each year,” said Adam Block, GM/VP of Legacy Recordings, Sony Music Entertainment’s catalog division.
Mariah Carey and her hubby Nick Cannon are celebrating Memorial Day weekend in Turkey. The singer is getting paid $1.5 million to perform at the opening of Marden Palace Hotel in Antalya. The New York Post stated that it is “Europe’s most expensive hotel,”
Tyler Perry and Oprah are flexing their muscle to help promote Lionsgate new film, “Precious,” which is based on the book “Push” by Sapphire. The movie centers on Princess, played by actress Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, an overweight and sexually abused teen who finds hope in alternative school. Mo’Nique plays her monster of a mother who is suffering from her own demons. The film also stars Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Lenny Kravitz.
The movie will be released Nov. 6 and was screened at Cannes Film Festival Friday.
