Sherri Shepherd to star in Lifetime series

Sherri Shepherd will soon add another job to her resume.  The co-host of ABC talk show, “The View,” will soon star in a Lifetime comedy based loosely on her own life, reports Entertainment Weekly.  The series is about a woman “who after learning of her husband’s infidelity and illegitimate child, allows both child and mother to move in with them.”

Sounds like complete fiction to me because I don’t know any woman who would go for that!

Sheila E. Goes Country

Sheila E. has gone country, y’all!  YEEEHAW!  The “Glamorous Life” singer decided to go on the CMT reality show, “Gone Country,” to compete to work with Nashville songwriters to write and sing a country song.  She said her friend Prince was a little taken aback by the news.

“He asked me why in the heck would I do this show,” the Grammy-nominated singer told People magazine.

Sheila E. won the competition for her new song, “Glorious Train.”  She beat out other celebrity opponents, which included George Clinton, Taylor Dayne, Richard Grieco and Justin Guarini. 

“I want to take an advantage of this opportunity and I would love to do a country record,” says the singer.  “I already contacted all of the writers who appeared on the show and I’m going back to Nashville to do a writing session at the end of March to come up with material.”

‘American Idol’ Mandisa loses 75 pounds

Remember Mandisa from season five of the Fox series, “American Idol”?  Well, just before the March 24 release of her new album, “Release,” the Grammy-nominated Christian singer has lost 75 pounds.  Mandisa said she used food to deal with being sexually molested as a child and raped at age 16.

“A lot of girls turn to men to fill that void and some turn to drugs,” Mandisa, 32, told People magazine. “I turned to food as my drug of choice.”

She credits her weight loss to doing cardio workouts five days a week and eating salads, lean meats and fiber.  Mandisa also received counseling for her childhood issues.

 “Being able to fit into clothes I couldn’t before is great,” she said. “To be able to walk into a room and not feel self-conscious, I don’t ever remember feeling this way.”

Michelle Obama and Oprah are cover girls

In the April issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Oprah Winfrey will share the cover with First Lady Michelle Obama.  Obama speaks to Winfrey about life in the White House, including decorating her new home.

 “I want art that reflects contemporary and traditional, I want to bring in new American artisans,” Obama said.

Prince sells new 3-CD set at Target

On March 29, Target shoppers can pick up Prince’s new three CD set, reports the Associated Press.  For $11.98, the set will include two new albums — “LOtUSFLOW3R” and “MPLSoUND” –and a third by his new artist, Bria Valente.

“Prince has long been renowned as one of the world’s most original and iconic musical artists,” said Mark Schindele, Target’s senior vice president of merchandising. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share his most recent work with our Target guests.”
  

Addams Family musical to open in Chicago

It’s cookey and it’s spooky and it’s coming to Chi-Town.  “The Addams Family” musical is will have a tryout run at the Oriental Theater in Chicago Nov.13.  The play will then have its Broadway preview in March 2010, reports Billboard.  Cast hasn’t been selected yet but actors Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth have appeared in a reading for the show.
